MEET THE TEAM: ALI - PHUKET DESTINATION MANAGER

Aliroy works at Raya Divers as a diving instructor and Phuket destination manager.

Aliroy is well-known for his popular PADI courses. He first arrived in Thailand on Koh Samui in 2009, after working as a dive guide in Spain. However, his stay on Koh Samui was brief, as he moved on to Phuket the following year to continue his diving career. Having previously been an entrepreneur in the forestry industry, Aliroy ended up in Thailand after many twists and turns, thanks to his love for travel.

“Fifteen years ago, I set off with the idea of seeing something new,” he says, reflecting years later in the Phuket office.

Aliroy has been diving for a long time, and his background also includes working as a Divemaster in technical diving on the islands of Raya Yai and Rawai before moving to Phuket. He is a well-liked instructor, and many customers are thrilled to take part in his courses.

Best things about Thailand: “The sea, the people, and the food.”

How do you spend your free time in Thailand? “I exercise and make music as a hobby.”

Do you live in Thailand permanently? “I live half the year in Finland and half in Thailand.”

An unforgettable memory? “Filming the Paradise reality TV series in Phuket in 2010-2011, which brought a lot of people to Phuket. The TV crew was great, and it was fun working with them. At our busiest, we had 20 minibuses lined up, ready to take guests out to sea.”

Aliroy's tips for Thailand: “Thailand offers plenty of sea and warm weather, so it would be a shame not to enjoy the water activities while on holiday here. Plus, the sea breeze is a great way to cool down in the heat.”

Your motto? “Nothing is as serious as gardening, and even that’s not serious,” Aliroy laughs.
